Bus rapid transit services will be developed in at least 20 cities in Indonesia, including Makassar, Bekasi, Surabaya, Bandung and Tangerang, over the next four years. For 2010, over US$5.6 million has been set aside by the Transportation Ministry to develop and expand bus rapid transit services in Jakarta, Bali, Tangerang and Padang.
The development of routes, stops and fleets will be undertaken in collaboration with regional governments and private firms, according to Suroyo Alimoeso, the director general of land transportation of Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry.
