Skoda Electric a.s. of Plzen has received order for 30 trolleybuses from the Sofia public transport company Center za Gradska Mobilnost EOOD of Sofia, Bulgaria. The Czech manufacturer will ship 12m Skoda 26Tr trolleybuses worth approximately EUR14m. The Czech Skoda Electric ended up being the only bidder to supply new trolley cars in this tender, though the documents were bought by four prospective suppliers.

The new Skoda vehicles will replace Ikarus trolleybuses which are currently in use in Sofia. First vehicles are to be delivered to Bulgaria in September 2010. The trolleybuses will be equipped with a diesel-generator and air condition system. The order has a vaule of 360 million Czech crones, according to Skoda Electric. The vehicles will be of the new type trolley 26Tr, which is based on a Solaris Urbino body; it has ZF axles and suspension, and a Skoda electric driveline. Earlier, the company got an order for 50 trolleybuses from the Romanian city of Timisoara, which were based on an Irisbus body.
