MERITOR SPECIALIST DRIVE AXLE FOR COACHES ON INDIAN MARKET
Meritor HVS (India) Ltd of Mysore displayed its MS13 177 single reduction hypoid drive axle (the predecessor to the 17X now used in Western Europe) at AutoExpo in Delhi. The axle, said Meritor, was targeted at India’s luxury coach market such as the Volvo B7R, now the B9R. A modified version made in India is to be launched later this year.
The modified axle has a differential gear housing that has a robust pinion bearing designed to cope with high torque retarder. Also, it will be able to handle retarders, usage of these additional brakes will increase across the Indian market in the future, according to Meritor. The axle is rated at 13 tonnes gross axle weight and 23t GVW; it offers a choice of drum and disc brakes are offered.
Meritor also states that demand for Meritor’s FH 946 deep drop front steer axle in increasing as tenders across India increasingly specify low floor and low entry buses for the city centres. Meritor’s low floor (LF) bus axle is supplied to all of Tata Marcopolo LF buses, which is fitted with Meritor’s ELSA 22.5 in disc brake made by Brakes India.
