REORGANISING TEL AVIV'S BUS NETWORK

Published at 17.12.2009 in Infrastructure, Public transport

UK-headquartered Transportation Planning (International) – TPi – has won a contract to help with the implementation of a reorganised bus network for the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The transport consultancy is working alongside Ayalon Highways Company, on behalf of Israel’s Ministry of Transport (MoT), which has recognised the urgent need to restructure public transport to enable it to meet the transport challenges of the future in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.

As a first step, Ayalon Highways has been tasked to create a new and improved structure for the bus system in Tel Aviv. The commission requires TPi to review the network reorganisation plan drawn up by Ayalon Highways and advise on what is needed for its successful implementation.

As well as a detailed review of the plan and GIS mapping of existing and proposed bus routes, TPi is conducting a number of site visits and field trips to examine current bus operations in the city before drawing up a comprehensive implementation plan. The consultancy is also providing advice on a wide range of good practice in network reorganisation, including general consultation on Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) operations, from across the world.
