SIX MANUFACTURERS IN FINAL BID FOR LONDON BUS DESIGN
Transport for London have announced that six bus manufacturers have qualified to bid for the contract to design and build the new bus for London. Detailed specifications have been sent out. Some of the key features specified in the new bus include an open platform and the use of green technology.
It must also be fashioned to meet the capital's requirements. Manufacturers have 12 weeks to submit their proposals and the contract will be awarded at the end of the year, at which point the successful applicant will finalise their design and begin work on building the new buses. The first vehicles are scheduled to go into service in 2011. It was announced in December 2008 that Aston Martin and Foster + Partners
along with joint winners, Capoco Designs Ltd, submitted winning entries to design a new bus for London.
