BIRMINGHAM PLANS INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT
The UK city of Birmingham is planning to implement Intelligent Transport, an IT-enabled transport network project, which will be developed by Virtual Earth developer Shoothill, Birmingham Science City Partnership, Digital Birmingham, Microsoft, Coventry University Enterprises and Birmingham City Council.
The aim of the project is to reduce environmental impact and speed up travel time through the provision of location-specific tracking information to drivers. The first phase would integrate data on transport areas including car park availability, traffic congestion and bus scheduling.
