NEW BUS/TRAIN TICKET SYSTEM TO BE INTRODUCED IN ARGENTINA
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has announced a single bus and train ticket system that should make an end to the illegal business of trading coins in Argentina. This trade was the result of the fact that on the so-called colectivos, the feeder buses within the big cities, a ride only could be paid with coins.
The new system, called SUBE, will use re-chargeable magnetic cards that commuters will be able to buy from shops. Around 12 million will be able to use the new system which is expected to be working in three months at a cost to set up of US$57.25 million. The government says it will give away four million cards and that some 17,000 card readers will be set up at buses, train and tube stations.
