VOLKSWAGEN TO ENTER BUS SEGMENT IN INDIA
Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge is, according to reports in the Indian press, planning to enter the commercial vehicles (CV) segment in that country. Starting early 2009, VW will gradually launch its large vans, buses and trucks in the Indian market.
Worth about Rs 45,000 crore, the Indian CV market is expected to grow fast during the next 5-8 years, and VW, which also owns the Swedish CV manufacturer Scania since a couple of months, wants to capitalize on that growth. The German company will start with launching its luxury vans for the high-end business/5-star hotel segment, followed by luxury buses from the Brazilian production.
