The transmission will be mounted in the Mercedes-Benz O500 citybus launched at the recent AutoExpo in Delhi. The goal is to roll out a local product for the Indian market. For Voith, the order represents the market entry for series deliveries of DIWA transmissions to India.
With the O500M/U, Mercedes-Benz is launching a citybus on the Indian market that is already in regular service in South America, North Africa and in the Middle East. There, the bus and its DIWA transmission have already proven themselves in highly demanding operating conditions.A decisive criterion for a successful entry in the market is an efficient and robust citybus that meets the latest Indian exhaust norms. Relevant requirements were thoroughly tested and confirmed by the Indian authorities for this Euro-5-vehicle. For 2012, Voith envisages deliveries of approximately 100 DIWA.5 transmissions for Indian vehicles. The demand originates primarily from public transport operators in large Indian cities.
