FIRST CHINESE FUEL CELL BUS PRESENTED AT BUSWORLD ASIA 2008

At the Sunlong stand during the recently held Busworld Asia exhibition Sunlonmg and its partner Shanghai Shen-Li High Tech Co showed the first Chinese fuel-cell bus, prepared for operation in Beijing.  

Shanghai Shen-Li High Tech Co., Ltd was founded in 1998, focusing business of commercialization of the hydrogen fuel cells and fuel cell engines technology. Since 1998, Shanghai Shen-Li has been awarded many important national R & D projects from Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Shanghai Municipal Government, holding a lot of important proprietary technologies with 300 patents applied in the USA and China. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is believed to be the final solution for human transportation because of high efficiency, renewable hydrogen energy and the only emission is pure water.

The fuel cell city buses are the most environment-friendly vehicles for use as city transportation. The replacement of the traditional mode of internal combustion engine fuelled by diesel with yhe new mode of fuel cells and hydrogen brings a revolution tot the emission and the efficiency. The fuel efficiency of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (>50%) is about 4 times higher than that of the traditional vehicles (16%) and the cost of hydrogen fuel per hundred kilometres (100RMB) is about half of the fossil fuel cost per hundred kilometres (200RMB), according to Sunlong and Shen-Li officials.

The bus exhibited, Shen-Li No.1 is the third prototype developed and came ready in August 2007. It has the latest generation fuel cells developed by Shen-Li High Tech.

Shen-Li developed the whole power traction train system, including the integration of driving motor, DC-DC controller, transmission, clutch, retrofitting of power steering, braking, air conditioning and other auxiliary operation system. The whole fuel cell powered city bus is controlled by operating the most advanced CAN bus control technology, which improves the reliability, safety and stability, for instance, the leaking hydrogen or high voltage electric shock could be prevented automatically by shutting down of the hydrogen supply and detaching of fuel cell electric output. Because “Shen-Li No.1” fuel cell city bus employs many advanced fuel cell power system and city bus integration technologies, the lifetime is certainly surpassing the previous fuel cell city buses prototypes ChuangXin No.1 and QingNeng No.1. The last one has been running for two years in Beijing operating more than 2000 hours and driving mileage more than 50000Km, according to Shen-Li.
