DELHI TRANSIT TO PURCHASE 2,300 BUSES
The Delhi (India) Transport Corporation (DTC) will purchase 2,300 CNG and diesel buses to augment its fleet.
Out of the 2,300 low-floor buses, 2,000 will be CNG-powered while the rest will be diesel. The new fleet will also include 85 air-conditioned buses. The DTC’s plans to purchase the new buses comes amid a crackdown on Blueline buses in the wake of a spate of accidents involving these private-run buses. The government of Delhi announced recently that it was halting the privately operated Blueline bus service after a crashing bus hit five cars and killed a teenager. Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said the service will be phased out in two years. There have been 488 fatal accidents involving buses in three years and most of them belong to the Blueline service.
